Information for Parents/Carers

When your child joins Montrose & District Athletics Club, you need to be aware that you are making a family commitment to the Club and the Sport.

Parents/carers need to:

• Support and encourage their children with their training, including arriving on time with the appropriate training clothing, physically and mentally ready to train
• Support and encourage athletes with competitions, which often take place throughout Scotland
• Help to develop the club by volunteering in some way and by turning up to help out when on the Parent Rota

Parent help at competitions
No athletics meeting could take place without officials. Times, distances and heights achieved must be properly measured for them to count. Races require starters, track judges, lap counters, timekeepers and photo finish operators. Field events need field judges and referees.  Parents are required to help do these tasks, accompanied by qualified officials.

Scottish Athletics organise regular training courses for Officials, starting at the very basic Level 1 qualification, which are suitable for volunteers with little or no experience in  athletics. Anyone interested in finding out more about officiating please ask at training for further information.

Also further details about courses for officials can be obtained from Scottish Athletics Officials Page.

Fundraising
The Club is always exploring opportunities to seek funding or raise money towards both ongoing running costs, as well as one-projects.  Volunteers are therefore always welcome to lead and assist with fundraising campaigns.  If you are interested, please speak to the Committee.

Like most local sports clubs, Montrose & District Athletics Club is run by volunteers and therefore needs Parental support
